Questions regarding TV tuner cards & notebook RAM

Postby Tigeriron on Tue Jul 22, 2008 3:44 pm

I wish to buy a TV tuner product with remote. I would prefer it be usb2 so I can use it on a desktop or laptop computer. I want the tuner to be HDTV capable, and work with cable or satellite. It would also need to be able to record tv programs to an external USB 250 Gb hard drive, as well as the internal hard drive.

Question #1 - Which tv tuner would you suggest?

- my computer specs = Intel dual core 1.8 MHz cpu on an Intel D946GZIS motherboard, windows XP MCE 2005 (sp3), 2 GB ram, ati x1650 pro video, 250 Gb Seagate sata hard drive, acer 19" lcd monitor (1080p compatible)

Question #2 - Do you have any notebook ram to fit an ancient IBM A20 laptop type 2628 - I am looking for 512 MB if you have it....what price?

In terms of the TV tuner, I would suggest looking at the Hauppauge HVR-950 USB tuner which retails at $79.97. Nothing works 100% with Cable/Satellite HDTV though.

In terms of the Memory, Kingston does not manufacture a 512 MB part. According to them your notebook is not capable of using that much memory on a single stick. The 256 MB part KTM-TP390X/256 retails at $104.80.
